Spring has definitely arrived here in the Endless Mountains! 🌷🍃🐝🐦

The flowers are blooming, bees are buzzing, and woodpeckers are pecking! Check out this great photo of a beautiful woodpecker Camp Counselor Matt took while hiking with some pups 📸

Did you know...

1. Woodpeckers can peck up to 20 times per second for a whopping total of up to 12,000 pecks per day!

2. A woodpecker's tongue can be up to 4 inches long and it wraps around the skull when it is retracted. Many woodpecker tongues are barbed to help the birds extract bugs from trees and holes.

3. Most woodpeckers have two toes facing the front and two toes facing the back (called zygodactyl feet). This helps them strongly grip trees and poles in their commonly seen vertical position.
